Exciting news!  Next month we’re offering a two-day plein air art-course here at Swallowtail Hill. We love that our guests often bring their sketch books, paints and easels with them to capture our wonderful landscape while they are enjoying a break here, and May is the month when our wildflower meadows are in full bloom, so we thought we’d create a break especially for those who’d like to dedicate some time to their art.

We’ve teamed up wtih local artist and teacher Cathering Farr, whose own work is based on her surroundings and is a direct response to the light, colour and texture of a place. Catherine loves flowers and gardenscapes and was drawn to Swallowtail Hill for this reason, she’s inspired by places to escape to in order to connect with nature.

The two-day residential course starts on Monday 20th May and runs until late afternoon on Wednesday 22nd May. You’ll stay in one of our bespoke glamping cabins or cottages-on-wheels and all of your meals will be included.

After checking-in on Monday afternoon you’ll have time to explore the farm and meet your fellow guests over an informal supper.

On Tuesday you’ll begin by exploring our wildflower meadows, making sketches and small individual plant studies as you go. You’ll move on to compositional studies in order to make a bigger picture of a section of the meadow – the bigger piece being the final sustained piece of work that you will do. The choice is yours as to the media you work in – large drawing, watercolour, acrylic painting or mixed media.

Catherine will guide and support you across the two days and the friendly and relaxed course will allow you to enjoy spending some time in our very special landscape.

Prices start from £235 per person, based on two people sharing a cabin, or £350 sole occupancy, rising to £300 per person sharing a cottage-on-wheels or £450 sole occupancy – depending on your choice of accommodation.

Spaces are limited. Please email sarah@swallowtailhill.com or call 01797 260 890 to find our more and book your place.
