Everything you need to know about staying here

Swallowtail Hill is THE place to Slowdown for a while. Here’s how we do it!
Your stay here will be quite unlike any other. We can say that with confidence because we’re not the new kids on the block anymore. We’ve been welcoming guests for 15 years! When we first began, glamping was a new concept – all about enjoying some time away from the busy-ness of life in a simple way. It had strong roots in sustainability – offering places to stay that had a small footprint on the planet and were focused on an outdoor lifestyle. Fast forward to 2025 and the glamping industry is now HUGE, there’s something for everyone and while choice is no bad thing, we want to make sure we’re staying true to our values and to those guests who we know share our values too.We are never going to be about superfast wifi, woodland cinema screens, outdoor cocktail bars and free Netflix – those things can be found in plenty of other places that we’re sure are fantastic but they aren’t what we hold dear. You know that what makes Swallowtail Hill special is our landscape, the quiet, the privacy, the exceptionally well-equipped, well maintained and super clean accommodation, the friendly welcome and the chance to slowdown and reconnect with yourself, with each other and with nature.

We’ve got it covered!
Once your stay with us is fully booked we’ll send you a QR code to scan to your phone which will give you access to our digital guide. This guide will answer all of your questions and tell you everything you need to know! It has a full kit list you’ll know what we provide, it has menus so you can pre order food and it even has ‘how to’ videos for those visitors who might not be confident with lighting fires. It also has a comprehensive guide to all the places to visit, things to do and see in the surrounding area with links and maps.
Sustainability is at the heart of our business
Everything we do is focused on reducing our footprint on the planet. That means everything we use, provide and stock has to tick our sustainability criteria. Your accommodation has been built sustainably. Everything we provide from the tea and coffee, to the fixtures and fittings, to the cleaning and laundry products we use, and the food and drink we offer – is as ethical and planet friendly as possible.

Thoughts on a Slow Start to the New Year
Swallowtail Hill regulars will know that we’re all about tapping into life lived more slowly. We call it the S’Lowdown as it’s the special Swallowtail Hill flavour of taking things at a pace that doesn’t leave us frazzled and disconnected.
So I regularly disappear from socials – because if I’m entirely honest – being a slave to the scroll doesn’t really match up to our values and it’s all too easy to get sucked back in which definitely has an effect on my mood.

Log Off and Look Up: Marketing Nature
This summer has been an eye opener. Not least because it’s been the most challenging one to date for our 14 year old business, but because it has made me question how we communicate the authentic appeal of Swallowtail Hill.

Sustainability at Swallowtail Hill

Waking From Hibernation
For the first time this winter we did something we should have been doing for years. We gave ourselves permission to S’Lowdown. Yep, the irony is not lost on us…

May On The Farm
May is one of my favourite months on the farm. The blossom, the hedgerow coming back into leaf, the lush grass – everything feels fresh, new and lovely…

Wind Power
Power prices are based on the wholesale price of gas worldwide but renewables are increasingly taking up the slack in power delivery…

February On The Farm
I’ve mainly been sowing flowers – my big plan this year is to dedicate two of the beds in the veg patch to flowers as I want a cutting…

Off-Grid Adventures
If you’ve not stayed with us before here’s a little flavour of what our off-grid spaces are all about! So why not have a browse and discover more!
