Booking Protect Offers You Cover In Case Of Cancellation

While it isn’t always the case that people take out holiday insurance for a short break in the UK, we always advise guests to do so in order to have some cover for situations where you may need to cancel your break once it has been finalised…

Our Story

Swallowtail Hill’s Story begins well over 30 years ago when we first started rewilding the landscape. Knowing we had something exceptional to share, we first welcomed guests back in 2010 and that was the start of something rather special…

Slowdown isn’t just a noun to us, it’s a verb, a vibe, a lifestyle.

We feel passionately about making sure that life isn’t passing you by in a never-ending to-do list and that you aren’t spending all of your time glued to your phone scrolling other people’s moments and memories rather than experiencing your own.

The SLowdown

Our blog gives you the lowdown on everything and anything that slows the frantic pace of life a little. There are seasonal stories about our farm along with ideas for fun things to do and places to visit while you’re in the area. You’ll find book reviews and recommendations, our favourite recipes too, all mixed in with thoughts and ways to make our lives less stressful. It’s your cue for a tea-break and a moment of calm.

  • star ratingWe had a lovely couple of days stay in the long view – very peaceful alongside woodland and fields with roaming sheep, a picturesque view even before the snow, and a short drive from Rye to explore. The hut was cosy and well kitted out, plenty warm enough with the wood burner going, and good ensuite with hot shower. Sarah was a great host – even doing the changeover clean of the hot tub in the dark for us when we arrived, as the hose had been frozen during the daytime. A great little place, highly recommend for a couples escape.

star ratingCosy getaway – We had a lovely, relaxing time here, despite rather dismal weather. The Round House was very cosy and comfortable, with everything we needed- the 4G, powerful hot shower and heating towel rack being unexpected treats!

star ratingWe stayed in the Roundhouse as a surprise for my wife. We had a very special stay with lots of snow in our private roundhouse. We got the bbq box and breakfast box and I have got to say the food was very nice and fresh. Everything was set up ready for us, organised so we could sit by the fire with no stress. Everything inside was so cosy and clean. We just had the best time. We loved the little ride to our roundabout house which made this fun, we also love the little woodland walk in the snow. Friendly helpful and can’t Waitrose go again

star ratingAbsolute perfection for a proper chill out and escape. The shepherd’s hut is so tastefully decorated and has everything you need, from gowns for the hot tub, to pans for cooking on the firepit and even a microwave. It’s cosy, comfy and high quality. Basically perfection!

star ratingMy husband and I have just returned from the most wonderful getaway at Swallowtail Hill. We stayed in The Roundhouse and it was absolutely perfect! The wood fired hot tub is a must, especially at night time when you can hear the deer roaming through the woodland! It was so peaceful and the facilities were amazing. I would highly recommend a visit to Swallowtail Hill. A once in a lifetime experience that we will remember forever!

star rating3rd stay and we’ll be back again! – As the title says, this was our 3rd stay at Swallowtail Hill – we just love it!
I always say to people that I cannot explain just how silent it is apart from the wildlife of course, it truly is a wonderful place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of ‘normal’ life!
This was our second stay in The Longview and once again cannot fault a thing!
Sarah and her team go above and beyond to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable!
We always take our two young children with us, armed with board games and marshmallows for the campfire – they love it just as much as us!
The cabin was spotless and well equipped for our stay, towels, bedding and crockery etc all provided!
We used the log fired hot tub on one of the days which is lovely!
We always have a wander around the site but don’t impose on other guests. In the on-site shop you can pick up trail sheets to keep the children (and us!) busy hunting for different leaves/trees/wildlife!
In the paddock opposite the cabin we had sheep to watch- they became our TV for the weekend!
We think we’ve found the place we want to come back to every year just to step away from our busy lives for a couple of days and enjoy family time together, not forgetting the sound of quiet!
If you are thinking about visiting – do it – you won’t regret it!
Sarah and team – thank you for another perfect stay!

star ratingBack to nature – Just back from a fabulous two nights celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary in Woodcutters cottage. The whole site has been so thoughtfully developed with such attention to detail provided in a truly sustainable way. We sauntered mindfully round the site admiring the location, we idly dreamt of a different way of life whilst sitting on the veranda, we unwound in the hot tub, we chilled out round the fire with a glass of bubbly, and then at the end of the day we slept soundly in a soft, cosy bed. And then on day two we did it all again along with a trip to Chapel Down vineyard! If we could have stayed longer, we would have! We will be back for sure! Thank you Sarah, Christopher and your team.
