The Long View
A truly luxurious space with breathtaking views
Meet The Long View. She’s something rather special…

We want you to be able to enjoy the landscape of Swallowtail Hill no matter the time of year and The Longview is the perfect place to do that. A gorgeous retreat to relax in with spectacular views.
She sits in a wildflower meadow known at The Eight Acres and we wanted to bring it right to your door. So the fully glazed end of the cabin not only gives you a beautiful south-facing ‘Long View’ but the bifold doors open to bring the outside in.
The king size bed faces the view so you can lie in bed and watch the sunrise – something we really recommend. You’ve probably seen photos of the view from the bed on our Instagram page – it’s the most photographed view captured by guests!
Behind the bed is a living space with table and chairs that stow when not in use and there’s a fully equipped but perfectly compact kitchen area with a gas hob, a microwave with grill and a mini fridge. There’s a wood burning stove for chilly evenings – so you can stay at any time of year. For couples – there’s a cosy corner to sit and read, but for families with up to two small children (under 10 years) the sofa space converts into bunkbeds.

Your bedding and towels are 400 thread count Egyptian cotton and we also provide robes.
You might be in the middle of nowhere but you still have the comfort of an ensuite with hot shower, basin and flushing loo.
The Long View has everything you need to make a self-catering break easy. Before you arrive, we’ll send you a complete kit list, so you know what to expect. Everything we supply is as sustainable and kind to the planet as possible .
Outside is your own private area with a dining deck for al fresco meals, firepit, deckchairs for lounging and the optional extra of the wood fired hot tub.

Take A Look at Our Farm Map To See Where You’ll Be Staying
One of the best features of Swallowtail Hill is just how secluded our accommodation is. You could easily hide away for a few days and not see anyone else if you don’t want to! The Long View is ten minutes’ walk from the barnyard and at least five minutes’ walk from the nearest accommodation. No neighbours. Just your own little corner of heaven for a few days. When we promise ‘getting away from it all’ we really mean it.
You leave your car parked in our barnyard and we drive you to your accommodation in our farm buggy and will show you how everything works and get you settled in. We collect you again on your day of departure but in between times you are free to walk around our acres as you please.

I went to Swallowtail Hill with my 3yr old daughter for a couple of nights and it was wonderful, she asked if we could live there! Sarah was really great getting us settled and throughout our stay. We were in The Long View and it was so comfy, had everything you could need and more. The hot-tub was wonderful and I also took a break from cooking for a couple of nights and we really enjoyed the chicken casserole and pasta Bolognese. We’re already planning when to go again!

Food & Drink
For some, the chance to cook up a storm on the campfire is an essential part of their stay, for others having a hand with the self-catering is what having a restful holiday is all about. So we offer a range of breakfast boxes, BBQ boxes, campfire suppers, picnics and teas that can be ordered in advance of your stay.

The bunk beds are only suitable for children under the age of ten, they cannot sleep teenagers or adults.
You simply add a note to your booking form or let us know by email or phone before your stay and we’ll fill it for you. We keep the hot tub as an optional extra as we’ve discovered that only around 65% of guests wish to use it. The tub is not designed to be chemically treated so if we fill it and guests don’t use it that’s 1000 litres of water wasted every time which is more than four households use on average each day! We take our sustainability credentials very seriously – so if you don’t want the hot tub you don’t pay for it and we don’t waste the water. We charge £30 for hot tub hire that covers the cost of one fill of the tub and provides you with enough logs to heat it twice which is enough to cover the length of most people’s stays. Health and safety dictates that the same water shouldn’t be heated more than twice so any further use is charged accordingly.
There isn’t enough floor space in the Longview for a travel cot. Moses baskets or bassinets will be fine.
I’m afraid not. As a nature reserve our landscape has free range deer and lots of wildlife so we don’t permit dogs no matter how well behaved they are promised to be.
No, at Swallowtail Hill we encourage you to take some time out of everyday life. To unplug in order to recharge! To stop the scroll for a while and really enjoy the time you spend here. So you won’t find wifi, or television, or cinema screens or anything like that here. We firmly believe this is what makes breaks here extra special, no distractions – just you, your loved ones, and some uninterrupted time to relax.
