The Hill Top Tent
During the summer months we have a secret location perfect for celebrations or romantic moments – The Hill Top Tent. She’s available to hire as an extra treat during your stay.
You might like to spend a few hours there for a picnic lunch or afternoon tea, or visit for sundowner drinks, it’s also a perfect place for a stargazing session, or to play board games and listen to music or simply to enjoy the view.
The Hill Top Tent is hidden away in its own private paddock – accessed only by the secret tree ‘tunnel’ we call Lovers’ Lane.
Once you’re there the views across our farm are stunning. George and Buttons the donkeys graze in the field next door and love to wander over and say hello.
The Hill Top Tent has comfortable seating outside, lanterns and a fire saucer for chilly evenings. Inside it has giant bean bags for relaxing in and fairy lights to add to the atmosphere.

We very often have enquiries from small family groups who want to book all six of our special places to stay to celebrate a landmark birthday or anniversary.
Swallowtail Hill lends itself perfectly to those who want to spend time with extended family or a few friends for a relaxed and peaceful stay.
The farm doesn’t host big or loud celebrations, but if you’re looking for something completely laid back and mostly off grid then we might absolutely fit the bill.
The paddock where the twin cabins, Wood and Penfold, sit is at the heart of the farm and is the perfect place for everyone to gather around the campfire for a BBQ or to just hang out in the sunshine. If you’re just two families wanting to holiday together then this is location for you too.
Our cabins and cottages each have a different character and different facilities so you can decide who stays where. Some might prefer the Longview with its ensuite and the families with young kids might be happiest in the off-grid cabins with space to run around. We can help you create the perfect weekend.
Take a look at our farm map
It’ll give you an idea of how your celebratory short break might work and where each of you will stay. You’ll each have your own space to relax as well as room to get together.

Check Availability for your special stay
I had a trip planned to stay in the roundhouse. After booking the trip I decided that I wanted to ask my partner to marry me while I was away. I asked them to fill the space with wild flowers and to have champagne on ice for our arrival. Sarah’s response was ‘leave it with me’. There was no hesitation to accommodate exactly what I’d asked. Her communication was 10/10! Sarah and her team went above and beyond. They decorated the round house in such a way that the whole experience was truly magical and I couldn’t have asked for it to look better. THANKYOU Swallowtail Hill!

Gourmet Treats & Special Menus
Chloe is our wonderful chef and with some notice we can provide the little extras you might want to make your stay special. Maybe you’d like some cupcakes for a celebration, or a birthday cake, she has the perfect menu to choose from.
You might prefer a picnic or afternoon tea at your accommodation – or at the Hill Top Tent. Or maybe a gourmet cheese board and a good bottle of red sounds more your style.
Our BBQ and breakfast boxes can be big enough to cater for a group as can our campfire suppers.

The Roundhouse is just for a couple. The Longview can accommodate a couple and two children under ten. Woodcutter’s Cottage and Meadow Keeper’s Cottage can accommodation two adults and two children. Wood and Penfold Cabin can accommodate four people.
Once your stay is finalised we’ll send you our digital guide to download to your phone. It contains our menus and lists of extras available so you can make your selections and email us to book.
I’m afraid not, we don’t have enough parking or the access to permit large scale celebrations.
Provided you book the site as a whole we will accept hen bookings of no more than twenty people (assuming some don’t mind bed sharing). But please note we have a noise curfew of 11pm.

Thoughts on a Slow Start to the New Year
Swallowtail Hill regulars will know that we’re all about tapping into life lived more slowly. We call it the S’Lowdown as it’s the special Swallowtail Hill flavour of taking things at a pace that doesn’t leave us frazzled and disconnected.
So I regularly disappear from socials – because if I’m entirely honest – being a slave to the scroll doesn’t really match up to our values and it’s all too easy to get sucked back in which definitely has an effect on my mood.

Log Off and Look Up: Marketing Nature
This summer has been an eye opener. Not least because it’s been the most challenging one to date for our 14 year old business, but because it has made me question how we communicate the authentic appeal of Swallowtail Hill.

Sustainability at Swallowtail Hill
If you’ve stayed with us you’ll know that sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We work endlessly to ensure your footprint on the planet is as light as possible while staying here.

Waking From Hibernation
For the first time this winter we did something we should have been doing for years. We gave ourselves permission to S’Lowdown. Yep, the irony is not lost on us…

May On The Farm
May is one of my favourite months on the farm. The blossom, the hedgerow coming back into leaf, the lush grass – everything feels fresh, new and lovely…

Wind Power
Power prices are based on the wholesale price of gas worldwide but renewables are increasingly taking up the slack in power delivery…

February On The Farm
I’ve mainly been sowing flowers – my big plan this year is to dedicate two of the beds in the veg patch to flowers as I want a cutting…

Off-Grid Adventures
If you’ve not stayed with us before here’s a little flavour of what our off-grid spaces are all about! So why not have a browse and discover more!
