Plenty of you arrive for a winter break just ready to hibernate for a couple of days, spending your time keeping cosy in your cabin, relaxing with a good book, soaking in the hot tub or walking around the woods. But some of you like to explore the area while you’re here so here’s a roundup of our favourite things to do on a winter weekend to inspire you!

A Winter Walk On The Beach

Take a trip to Camber Sands for a winter’s walk along the sandy beach. If you’re game for an early start, wrap up warm and take an early morning stroll along the shore to watch the sun rise over with no-one else around to disturb you. Make a pit-stop at The Fig in Rye afterwards for some delicious breakfast and the chance to warm up again!

Pub Lunch

Nothing beats a roast dinner in a country pub on a wintery afternoon. One of our favourite pubs to visit in the area is The White Dog in Ewhurst. They serve hearty Sunday roasts alongside delicious dishes ranging from char-grilled sea bream to a vegetarian ‘sausage’ roast. Sitting around the crackling log fire and catching up with friends or faily is the perfect way to relax.

A Little Retail Therapy

Rye is a beautiful, quaint little town with a high street made up of independent shops and boutiques. It’s the perfect town for a slow saunter and a mooch about – from gifts, clothes and homewares to brocante, books and antiques you’ll be delighted with your unique finds! Grab a hot chocolate from Knoops as you wander around – it’s the best!

Trip to the Cinema

The Kino in Rye is the perfect place to catch a matinee on a rainy afternoon. This small-town cinema has two small screening rooms with luxurious seating and plenty of leg room!

Steam Train Ride

The Kent and East Sussex railway is the perfect place to take your children this chilly half-term. With the “kids for a quid” offer on this February the steam train ride is great fun for the family. There are activities on board to keep the kids amused and on Saturday February 18th local children’s author Jeannie Duncanson will be storytelling on-board in the Family Saloon.
