One of our favourite places to eat in Rye is The Fig. It’s a little gem on the high street which is a delicious cross between a café and a restaurant. You won’t have eaten anywhere quite like it before, but you’ll definitely want to go back.

Rosie is the creative force behind The Fig, a largely self-taught chef whose skill and talent has been honed by her extensive travels around the world. You can enjoy a fabulous brunch or lunch in the daytime, or savour a range of small dishes with influences from all around the world in the evening. The menu changes regularly, good coffee and wine is a given and it’s the friendliest little place with a gorgeous interior.

One of the reasons we love the place so much is that there are always delicious meat-free and plant-based dishes on offer. All too often when dining out, vegetarians and vegans find they have a very limited choice and it’s a joy to eat somewhere that offers such tasty variety. But rest assured meat and fish eaters are well looked after too!

Drop in for brunch and you might enjoy avocado smash, edamame beans and pickled radish with sourdough toast and toasted seeds.

A lunch treat might look like shredded chicken with roasted kale, goat’s cheese, figs, blood orange, black rice, mint, pistachio and pomegranate.

And dinner might include Bombay fish cakes with slaw and coriander chutney.

But whatever your preferences you’d better leave room for pudding! Too many to choose from but caramelised pineapple tart anyone…?

Brunch and lunch are on a first come first served basis, but you can book a table for dinner, last  table is at 8.30pm.

Rye has a lovely line up of eateries these days and there’s certainly something to suit everyone, but The Fig is something very special and we hope you think so too!
