One of the great pleasures of visiting somewhere new is enjoying the produce from the region.

We’re foodies through and through so we love to recommend the best places to shop for local grub! A big favourite is Eggs to Apples – an award-winning, family run farm shop in Hurst Green – just on the border between Kent and Sussex.

It’s a marketplace for local growers, makers and producers – which change throughout the season – but at any one time you’ll find over 50 local suppliers represented.  It’s somewhere between a shopping trip and a day out!

Our favourite is the cheese counter –  which showcases five local cheesemakers alongside the best of regional and continental cheeses.

You’ll find charcuterie, baked goods and salads at the deli counter – perfect for lunches and picnics.

Eggs to Apples works with Garlic Wood Farm in West Sussex – an ethical butchery supplying them with free range, pork, chicken and grass-fed beef. The Fresh Fish Shop also in West Sussex provides fresh and smoked fish. Of course there’s artisan bread and local milk and cream along with the best cakes, cookies and brownies from three local bakers too!

And all of this sits alongside a well-stocked pantry of whole foods, baking goods and condiments.

You can stop for a coffee and a cake in the garden café while you’re there or grab yourself a takeaway. It’s open 7 days a week so it’s the perfect pitstop when you’re enroute to Swallowtail Hill to stock up for your stay. If that doesn’t work with your itinerary – you don’t need to miss out – because Eggs to Apples are all about Hampers For Glampers (WE LOVE THIS!) – you can shop on their website and have your shopping delivered to us for your day of arrival. It really is a win win!
