In the first of our series of news and updates on local businesses and attractions – this month we’d like to introduce you to Oxney Organic.
This little corner of the South East is rapidly making a name for itself as wine producing country. And really good wine at that. There are many vineyards in the area – but how many of you know that we have one almost on our doorstep?
If you walk for five minutes along the lane from Swallowtail Hill, you reach Oxney Organic. Oxney’s 35 acres of vines produce around 20% of all organic grapes grown in the UK and they use them to make an increasingly celebrated range of still and sparkling wines. From April to November, you can visit the estate and discover more – tour the vineyard and the winery and learn about cool climate grape growing and organic methods. Of course no tour would be complete without the chance to sample some wine so you’ll enjoy a guided tasting of four of Oxney’s best loved wines.
If you want to make the most of your visit why not book a post tour picnic? Your basket will be filled with Sussex cheese, charcuterie, bread and olives to accompany a chilled galss of wine (of course!) and you can find your own spot in the vineyard to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Tours and picnics are bookable direct with Oxney Organic – so if you’ve a stay booked with us next year and wine is your thing – then start planning! In the meantime, you can visit Oxney’s online shop and stock up wth some English Sparkling Wine for Christmas!
And our lovely friends at Oxney have given us a bottle of Oxney Classic 2017 to give away to one lucky Swallowtail Hill fan. To be in with a chance of winning it you’ll need to hop on over to our post on instagram – @swallowtailhill
