2025: New Year, Fresh Start…

What if you could reshape your life without having to reinvent yourself? What if you just started living life more slowly? Yes, I know. Life just keeps on coming at you. The stuff to do is never ending. You keep on keeping on, hopeful that at some point there’ll be a pause just long enough to catch your breath. You think that this is just how it is, that there isn’t an option. What if it didn’t have to be this way?

Here’s the thing. We already know what’s bad for us.
We know that too much screen time for our kids isn’t a good thing. We know that doom scrolling on social media gets us nowhere; we know that binge watching mindless television doesn’t bring us joy; we know that doing something outdoors usually lifts our spirits. AND YET, we find ourselves increasingly living life at a pace dictated to us. We’ve forgotten how to listen to what our bodies and our brains need. We don’t know how to break this cycle that we’re stuck on. Every aspect of the fast moving, consumer driven society we live in encourages bigger, better, faster, more.

We talk about our worries for a future controlled by AI and yet we’re ignoring the irony that we’re beginning to treat ourselves like robots too. But we can’t stick ourselves on charge and bounce back when our battery is full after a few hours. We’ve almost lost sight of the fact that we’re human, that we have a physical being that needs care, and nurture and that includes our over stimulated, busy, anxious brains.

The S’Lowdown® has always been what Swallowtail Hill is all about. I created this remarkable place without consciously realising I was shaping it into the very environment I needed to benefit from most.

Sneak Peak Inside The Guide:

The guide offers a deep dive into the some of the thinking behind the benefits of living life more slowly, and what that might look like for you.

It asks you to consider how you view life – and how a simple shift in perspective might make slowing down more accessible.

What the guide is NOT

It’s not ANOTHER THING TO DO. It’s not about adding more, it’s about letting go. It’s about more ease, more being true to yourself and your values.

If anything it’s an anti-guide.  No false promises, no checklists, no targets, just some gentle words to encourage you to start another year in your life without the pressure that you’ve come to accept as normal.

Don’t Just Take My Word For It…..

I’ve included a list of some of my favourite books from writers who have been considering this very subject from all different angles, their words nurture as much as they offer wisdom.

Meet Us! Swallowtail Hill’s Custodians, Sarah & Christopher

Thirty-five years ago, Christopher stepped out of his car at Swallowtail Hill. Shirt crumpled from the drive from London, sleeves rolled up and eyes creased against the bright sunshine, he looked at the view and his world spun on its axis. For decades since, we have been custodians of this spectacular and carefully restored landscape. We always tread lightly on the planet and made sustainable choices from the word go. The flowers, hedgerows, woodland and ponds burst with colour and life. The landscape would be recognisable to a time traveller from 500 years ago – a place where s’lowdown is effortless and easy.Sarah opened the gates to Swallowtail Hill as one of the first glamping spaces in the UK. 15 years in the industry gives Swallowtail Hill the proud title of OG glamper. And with this much experience, comes an escape like no other. Uncover your perfect stay, in a truly special place, steeped in peace and a deep sense of the restorative power of nature.
